Hi all!
Thanks for sharing your one-line jokes with me on my last post! There’s no joke I like better than a pun or a corny one-liner!
I thought you might like a little update on the baby hedgehog that we got a few months ago (she’s not such a baby any more!).
Cleo’s happily adjusted to life with me (or am I adjusted to life with her?). When I write, she snuggles on my lap, or runs around on my desk and sniffs things. Her favorite food is live meal worms.
I’m a vegetarian, you might know. So it’s says a lot about how much I love this little beastie that I feed squirmy little worms to her. They make her so happy.
She has sensitive skin, so in the video below it’s actually little red. But I’m on it. Or…she’s on it (it being mite medication).
I have to tell you–Cleo is nocturnal. So she wasn’t especially happy with me for waking her up to take a movie of her… She’s a bit of a diva. But oh my gosh, cute as a button even when she’s a grump.
Here’s the video of her: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzQTyQReU3M&feature=youtu.be
I tried to embed it, but that feature isn’t working at the moment for some reason. But the link should work. Be sure you have the sound up so you can hear the funny noise she makes.
And apologies in advance for my funny noises (God, do I really sound like that?).
As usual, leave a comment to be entered to win my LOVE TO READERS prize for January!

Awwwww. She’s soooo cute ! Can I meet her? Hedgehogs are adorable!
She is sooooo cute
That was cute! Many thanks.
I also liked how we got to hear YOUR voice. We see lots of author pics on the blogs (especially re conventions), but rarely do we hear voices. Thank you. BTW, I like your voice.
LMAO :] This is absolutely ADORABLE <3 I used to have one when I was a little girl, we named it Reggie the Hedgie ;] I was the only person in the family Reggie liked. He used to shoot his spikes into everyone else, including our German Shepard, who used to have hedgehog spikes sticking out of his nose every day, poor thing!! Haha!! But they are just so adorable!!
Awe Cleo is such a cutie. Thanks for sharing her with us.
PS. I LOVE LOVE LOVE A Promise of Safekeeping!! Its super amazing <3 Just wanted to let you know :]
Awe! She’s so cute, I’d love to have a pet hedgehog. Cleo’s so cute when she’s sniffing about like that. I agree with Laney 4 it was nice to hear an author’s voice for a change.
I wouldn’t be all that surprised if someday Cleo ended up in one of your books, it seems like she’s got a lot of character! She’d probably be awesome as a unique pet for one of your female characters!
Very cute! Watched it twice – first time I was looking so hard I forgot to listen. I think the only other hedgehogs I’ve seen have been at zoos, but not such a close up.
I’ll post more Cleo vids when I have them!
One blog reader wrote to me to say “why not film in the day since she nocturnal?” And I would have, but the light is better during the day for taking pix.
Kellee, So glad you’re loving A Promise of Safekeeping! Hooray!
Gabrielle, Funny you should say that…a Cleo-inspired character will likely be making an appearance soon!
Love!
I know she is VERY cute, but I’m sorry you lost me at live meal worms.
Such a cutie! But I don’t blame her for being so grumpy. I certainly would
be if someone woke me for photo session!

I agree with Mary Preston. She’s very cute and you lost me at live meal worms too. However, are you sure she is a girl?
Cleo is so cute! Can you snuggle with her or are her quills too pointy? Not that I can get one as my dog would probably freak out!

Awww she’s so cute. Sorry to hear about the mites..I know exactly how you feel I had to give my rat’s mite meds for 3 weeks when they got them. The best I can figure is they hitched a ride in a bag of rat food. So my vet told me years ago to freeze all bagged bedding and bagged foods that can be frozen without problems before giving it to the rats. It will kill any parasites that have hitched a ride.
LOL! Yes–the meal worm thing is a little gross. Mostly she just eats kitty food. The worms are a special occasion thing.
Mary–funny you should say that about freezing the food. Her next bag is coming from the freezer. Maybe that will help. Poor little thing…I hear her itching now!
she is soso cute
